January has always been one of my favourite months. Not because of resolutions or rigid routines, but because of the feeling of spaciousness it brings. It’s as if the whole world pauses for a moment, gently inviting us to breathe and ask: How do I want this year to feel?
Over the years at LH Agenda, we’ve learnt that the most powerful goals aren’t the longest lists—they’re the ones anchored in values, clarity, and intention. When we start the year with a calm, grounded mindset, our decision-making becomes clearer, our energy steadier, and our leadership stronger.
Did you know our award-winning planners and journals are designed in collaboration with industry experts? They feature mindset, productivity and leadership content to inspire and empower you.

In this article, we’ll explore a gentle, purposeful approach to beginning your year
1. Begin with intention, not resolutions
Traditional resolutions often focus on fixing or changing ourselves—usually with pressure attached. Intention setting, on the other hand, invites clarity and alignment. It shifts the focus from doing more to being more of who you want to be.
Every January, I take a moment with my planner and write down how I want the year to feel. A few years ago, my intention was “steady confidence”—something I wanted to cultivate amidst growing responsibilities and motherhood. That intention shaped my habits more than any long resolution list ever could.
Tip: Choose one guiding intention for 2026. It could be a feeling (calm, confidence, joy), a value (courage, compassion), or a mindset (growth, resilience). Use it as your compass throughout the year.
2. Create goals that are clear, kind, and realistic
Once your intention is set, you can start shaping practical goals that support it. When goals feel realistic and meaningful, they’re easier to sustain—and far less overwhelming.
Here’s a simple structure I love using with my planners:
- One professional or business goal
- One personal growth goal (wellbeing, learning, creativity)
- One relationship, passion or community goal
This keeps your year balanced and avoids the all-too-common trap of overloading yourself in January.
Personal anecdote: I used to set ten goals every January. By March, I was drowning in my own ambition. When I simplified to three core goals aligned with my intention, my progress not only improved—but felt more joyful.
Tip: Write your three core goals in your planner’s annual goal section and revisit them monthly to stay aligned.
3. Establish rituals that fuel your energy
A meaningful year isn’t built on motivation alone—it’s built on rituals. These tiny, regular actions support your energy, mindset, and capacity to lead with clarity.
Some rituals we see women in our community love include:
- A 5-minute morning intention check-in
- A weekly planning session on Sundays or Mondays
- A midweek reset to pause, breathe, and review
- A few minutes of journalling before bed
- A refreshing wellness ritual with Splasí for energy and hydration
One of my favourite rituals is what I call a “quiet start”. Before emails, meetings, or the school run, I take a few minutes to listen to a short “morning insight” meditation (I’ll share more about this practice in my next email). My boys already know that this is Mum’s quiet moment — unless something truly urgent is happening. After school drop-off, I walk our dog to a local café, settle in with my planner, and write down my top three priorities for the day. These small, steady rituals shape the tone of my entire day.
Tip: Choose two or three rituals that feel achievable—not overwhelming—and add them to your Success Routines Planner in your LH planner.
4. Use your planner as your leadership partner
Your planner isn’t just a calendar. It’s a guide, a container, and a grounding space. When used intentionally, it becomes a leadership tool.
At LH Agenda, we recommend using your planner to:
- Set a clear strategy for your life and define meaningful long-term goals
- Break those goals into monthly milestones
- Track habits that support your wellbeing
- Capture wins along the way
- Reflect weekly, so you stay aligned rather than reactive
- Document your ideas, creative sparks, and moments of gratitude<
Structure creates freedom. When your days and weeks have a rhythm, there’s more room for creativity, rest, and connection.
Tip: Block out 30 minutes this week to personalise your 2026 planner—tabs, colours, stickers, accessories, whatever makes it feel joyful. The more you love using it, the more consistent you’ll be.
5. Protect your wellbeing as you lead
January can sometimes bring a pressure to “start strong,” but starting strong doesn’t mean starting fast. It means starting in a way that honours your wellbeing.
This year, try approaching January with softness. Give yourself permission to ease in. Protect your energy. Set gentle boundaries. Celebrate small progress.
Your wellbeing is the foundation of your leadership—personally and professionally.
A personal story:
Two years ago, I joined a women’s golf group. At first, I carried a huge sense of guilt. Taking half a day on a Tuesday felt indulgent. My husband would need to manage the school run alone, and I worried what my team might think. A voice in my head kept whispering, “Who am I to play golf on a Tuesday morning? I should be working.”
But once I started, everything shifted.
My husband was not only supportive—he believed I truly needed it and deserved it. My boys loved having a special morning with their dad and would send me off with the biggest hugs, wishing me luck in the competition. And my team? They thought it was wonderful that I was prioritising something that brought me joy. I also discovered so many other working women doing the same—fitting in play, rest, and movement around their schedule, not after everything else was done.
It taught me that wellbeing isn’t selfish; it’s a form of leadership.
Tip: Write your “non-negotiables” for 2026 in your planner—sleep, movement, family time, quiet time, or anything that supports your mental and physical health. These will become anchors that keep you steady throughout the year.
6. Celebrate the start of your journey
Before you rush into big plans, pause and celebrate the new beginning itself. A new year is an incredible opportunity—a fresh chance to grow, to lead, to explore, and to nurture the parts of you that matter most.
Even small celebrations count. A new pen. A quiet coffee or Splasi. A moment reflecting on how far you’ve come. These rituals anchor your intentions and help you begin the year with gratitude and confidence.
Takeaway
A purposeful start to 2026 isn’t about perfection. It’s about beginning with clarity, kindness, and intention. With the support of your planner, journal, Meeting Notebook, and wellness rituals like Splasí, you can:
- Set meaningful, values-aligned goals
- Cultivate habits that nourish your energy
- Build rhythms that support leadership and focus
- Create space for calm, creativity, and growth
The year ahead holds so much potential. Starting it with intention ensures you step into 2026 feeling energised, aligned, and ready to lead with purpose.
