What is a vision board?
A vision board, or a dream board, is a visual representation of everything you want out of your life. Images, key words, quotes-anything that captures the feel of what you want to be, what you want to do, what you want to have.
Why you need a vision board?
The idea is to use this board to help you clarify your goals for your life, and keep them in front of you each and every day so you can remember your ‘why’ and what you’re working towards, especially when you’re struggling through the day-to-day realities.
It can also help you make key decisions when it comes to your business or your personal life. If you’re unsure of what you should be doing, take a look at your vision board to help you determine which choice will get you closer to your dreams.
It’s also a stylish addition to any home or office, and a great talking point with your friends and family-because talking about your dreams with others is another step towards making them a reality.
Ideas to include on a vision board
1. Your dream day.
What does your dream day look like? What would you be doing? Where would you be? Who would you be with?
2. Your ideal lifestyle.
What kind of life would you like to live? Where, and what kind of residence? What would your perfect house or office look like? Would you like to travel, and where to?
3. What you want from your business or career.
What’s your ideal role? What’s a business idea you want to turn into reality? What are the focus words that summarise what you want?
4. Who you want to be.
What kind of person do you want to be? What kind of traits would you like to have? What kind of work would you like to be doing? How do you want to make others feel? What quotes or key words embody all you are or want to be?

For my vision board, I used the LH Agenda Vision Board Kit “Make it Happen”, included images of people who inspire me, and tagged them with the trait I admire in them, or the reason they inspire me.
I have Alicia Keys for her boldness and bravery. Tory Burch for her beautiful designs. Steve Jobs for being innovative. Pharrell Williams because he’s a creative thinker who’s true to himself. Tory Burch yet again for her philanthropy, through her charity Embrace Ambition which empowers female entrepreneurs-she reminds me to be kind and generous instead of focusing solely on my business.
I also included photos of Ralph Lauren’s houses, because that’s how I want to live. I’d love to also have a beautiful home office with lots of peonies. There’s my travel dreams: the rice terraces of the Philippines and the Amalfi coast in Italy. Then there’s my dreams for my business’ growth. I want to be in New York City one day (I’ve tagged that with a mindset card reminding me to think BIG!). I’ve included a picture of a Tory Burch handbag as design inspiration for LH Agenda – elegant, full of details, feminine, but definitely not cute. It’s my goal for the LH Agenda brand!
What would yours look like? Don’t be afraid to dream big and be audacious. This is about YOUR dreams, no matter how impossible you may think they are now. The vision board will give you the drive and determination you need to turn dreams to reality.
How to create a vision board

I mocked up the vision board featured in this article in InDesign so you can get an idea of what it looks like. But I’m planning to print all the images and artwork and set this up on a large corkboard or magnetic board so it’s in front of me every day. Everything you see on the mock-up, except the images, is from the LH Agenda Vision Board Kit (available for purchase here).
The images are all from the internet, so I’ll print them out and cut them out. You can also go old-school and cut pictures from magazines and brochures!
Another idea is to create your vision board in photo editing software such as Canva or Photoshop, and print it out poster-size in your local print shop.
Tip: Want to add some extra texture and dimension to your board? Try pinning up ropes with pegs to hold the pictures, pages, and text!

Displaying your Vision Board
1. Home office or office
Your home office is the perfect place to display your vision board, because what better place to be reminded of everything you’re working for? Every time you look up from your work, or take a break, it’ll be right in front of you to keep you encouraged and motivated.
2. Bedroom
Make your vision board the first thing you see when you wake up, and the last thing you see before you go to bed. It will help you start your day with renewed determination (and put a smile on your face!), and end your day with a reminder of all you’re working towards.
Using your Vision Board
Don’t let your vision board fade into the background over time. Make a point to regularly look at it and visualise various elements. Get excited! Or nervous, or energised. Whatever the feelings, embrace them and let them drive you forward.
You can also pick an element of your image board to journal about-what does it mean to you? What would it look like to see it happen? What is one small thing you can do right now to bring it closer to reality? Be descriptive. Be imaginative.
If you find you’re still overlooking the board, or if it doesn’t excite you the way it did at the start, then refresh it! Find new pictures or quotes or key words that inspire you.
